Section outline

  • The ITP322 (International Training Programme) on Social Protection for Sustainable Development, implemented by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), Arbetsförmedlingen, and the Economic Policy Research Institute (EPRI), aims to strengthen the national social protection systems to address poverty, vulnerability, and inequality while promoting inclusive development. Participants include strategic-level government officials, representatives from ministries and agencies, and professionals from civil society organizations who can drive reforms in their national social protection systems.

Launched in 2019, the programme has trained seven cohorts of participants through an innovative approach that combines theoretical learning with practical implementation. Key features include regional workshops in Africa, training phases in Sweden, and a unique handover mechanism where each cohort builds upon and continues the change programmes initiated by previous groups. The programme combines in-person and online sessions, with country teams implementing medium-term change programmes tailored to their national contexts, supported by international experts and mentors. The programme's extension into a second phase in 2025 continues this vital work through ITP322/8 and ITP322/9, maintaining the momentum of social protection reforms across Ethiopia, Mozambique, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia.
